This Project explores a ‘luxury’ semi detached typology - A common plan mirrored about a shared party wall.
The site commands a slightly elevated position on a gentle northern slope, affording great views just over the tree tops of the valley below to the horizon on the opposite side with a view of the ever changing Rosebank skyline.
The houses are positioned at the back of the site to maximise on the size of the garden to the north and provide off street parking to the south.
The gentle slope, wide south entry and north facing aspect of the site are incorporated into the planning and cross section of the design.
The plan comprises two wings north and south which extend the full width of the site.
The south wing contains the main entrance, service spaces, garages, staff quarters and a guest bedroom.
The north wing split over two levels contains the main living spaces a half level below the main entrance and the bedrooms and pyjama lounge a half level above.
The intersection of the two wings about the split level is a defining feature of the project.
In particular an increased spatial volume is achieved over the entrance hall celebrating a sense of arrival by simply extending the roof of the taller north wing over the south wing.
